Mercy Hospital Chosen to Participate in AONE’s Program of Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB)

Only South FL Hospital invited to participate in AONE’s latest initiative!

Miami, FL (June 11, 2007) – Mercy Hospital, nationally recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence and patient satisfaction, was recently selected by The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) to participate in a two-year project to improve patient care.  Mercy Hospital was one of three hospitals in Florida and the only hospital in South Florida chosen to participate in the innovative program.

Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) is a national program designed to improve the quality and safety of patient care on medical and surgical units. TCAB derives from a project originally launched in 2003 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Due to such great success, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation awarded nearly $1 million to the AONE to work with select hospitals nationwide in an effort to share lessons learned from TCAB.

“We are proud and honored to be afforded the opportunity to participate in this innovative program,” said Connie Barden, director of Patient Safety at Mercy Hospital.  “Patient safety and quality care are the two most important drivers of our work at Mercy Hospital and the TCAB program will help us to continue our improvement in these areas in a major way.”

TCAB will also work to increase the vitality and retention of nurses and to improve the effectiveness of the entire care team.  The program engages nurses to develop interventions and design new processes that improve care and lead to better staff morale.

“AONE members at these hospitals are leading their staff in the journey of transformation that will ultimately result in improved patient care and nurse leadership at the bedside,” said Linda Q. Everett, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, FAAN, president of AONE.  “We are extremely proud of these hospitals who have committed to join AONE and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in our TCAB dissemination project.”
